01/07/2010 - Poor Queue Management at Airports: a direct cost correlation for Businesses and Passengers alike?

Poor queue management has a direct cost correlation for both businesses and consumers alike and therefore effective queue management can never be taken lightly. This is especially so within the Aviation industry. For example, if a passenger experiences a bad check-in and security incident whilst queuing, then such an incident can negatively impact the passenger's perception, thereby possibly deterring him/her from making any future repeat bookings. Furthermore, additional time spent queuing landside will obviously affect the airport authority since there will be less time available for passengers to spend at the retail and food outlets that are available airside.

In order to eradicate lengthy queues and the associated problems, highly intelligent Workforce Scheduling systems are available. One such system is offered by Rostima - a leading provider in intelligent Enterprise Workforce Planning and Management Software systems for complex workforce environments including the Aviation, Ports and Logistics sectors. Rostima's QueuePlanner provides a strategic gate or check-in desk forecasting and optimisation module. It takes the event schedule and forecast loads to generate activities based on average check-in time at the desk and targeted queue wait times. By adopting such a proactive technique to meet set queue length targets, an organisation will be able to improve efficiency and productivity, drive up customer perception and, critically, see the resulting revenue rise hit the bottom line.

04/06/2010 - Can a Workforce Management System complement a TOS?

Article in June edition of World Port Development publication

A Terminal Operating System (TOS) is typically implemented by a terminal operator to enable the smooth and efficient planning of the operation from gate to yard to vessel. An additional means of aiding terminal efficiency and cost reduction, and potentially achieving a competitive advantage is to complement the TOS with a workforce rostering and management solution. This type of system can effectively eliminate the guesswork from planning of 'the workforce' whilst maximising efficiency throughout the entire operation.
